Summer Holiday Football
There is still time to book a place on our popular holiday football camps. There are still places on our girls only camp, which will take place at Yeadon Westfield Junior School on July 28th, 29th and 30th. Meanwhile, there are limited spaces left for our Nethermoor-based camp, for both boys and girls. This camp will take place every weekday during the summer holidays, except Monday August 30th. For more details about either of our camps, visit our social media pages. To secure a place on either of the camps, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Eco Schools Update
This week, the Eco Committee at Guiseley Primary achieved Silver Award status as part of the Eco Schools project. To achieve Silver status, the Committee had to inform others of the work they have been doing about the environment through different mediums. This includes the school’s Eco Board, which features examples of class work, pictures from the group’s litter picks, as well as an Eco Suggestion box. Achieving Silver status has put the school in a great position to start taking more action in September to make the school more sustainable, and to work towards Eco Schools Green Flag status.
At Queensway school, the Committee has almost reached Bronze status. Once the group’s video has been sent out to the rest of the school, alongside a PowerPoint, which both detail the work they have completed so far, the Committee will receive their Bronze award.
Generous Donation of Laptops
Guiseley Community Foundation would like to say ‘Thank You’ to Ben from TechAngels in Bradford, for donating 16 laptops and data packs to children in our communities. This donation helped to ensure as many children as possible had access to the internet during the third national lockdown. As a result, children who received a laptop were able to complete their school work to a high standard, and consequently, did not fall behind in their studies.
End of the School Year
Next week is the last week of the school year for most schools. This school year has been full of challenges as a result of the pandemic, but the Foundation has still been able to continue working within schools throughout the majority of the school year. The Foundation has been able to lead a number of very successful projects this year, despite the Covid restrictions in place.
For example, we lead a number of targeted intervention sessions weekly in a number of our partner schools. These sessions, which either take place as one-to-one sessions or in small groups, have helped improve the sport skills, self-esteem and the behaviour of a number of children.
At Guiseley Primary and Yeadon Westfield Junior School, a number of students have passed the Playmaker Award scheme. This scheme has helped develop the leadership skills of these children, and again increase their confidence.
This half-term, the Foundation began the Eco Schools project. This project is already proving a success, with Queensway achieving Bronze Award status and Guiseley Primary achieving Silver Award status in just one half-term.
The Foundation is looking forward to working with our partner-schools again from September!
