Successful Foodbank Collection
Our foodbank collection on Saturday was a huge success! Despite the poor weather, we were able to collect a large number of donations. Everyone at Guiseley Community Foundation would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to all the Guiseley fans and players, as well as the other members of our community, who donatedto the collection. Many have already started to feel the benefit of our collection, with donations already being distributed by Otley foodbank and Aireborough Children’s Centre. The rest of the donations will be made into hampers to distribute during our Healthy Holidays programme before Christmas.
Westfield Mini Olympics
Last week, Community Coach Marcus held a mini-Olympics at Yeadon Westfield Junior School. Students in Year 5 who have one-to-one interventions with Marcus took part in the event. Since October half term, these students have been practicing a number of Olympic events during their interventions, in preparation for the competition. There were running, jumping and throwing events, but the children’s favourite event was the fencing. Each student has improved in each of the events since October half term. Well done to everyone who took part.
Queensway Eco Action
On Monday, volunteers from Friends of Nunroyd Park visited Queensway school’s Eco Committee. Alongside Community Coach Marcus, the committee built seven bird boxes. Some of these bird boxes will be put up round school, whilst the rest will be put up in Nunroyd Park. After building the bird boxes, the group also planted a Willow and a Mountain Ash tree at the front of the school. Planting these trees will help meet the Eco Schools criteria for the Transport topic, as this is one way that the school is trying to combat air pollution. Thank you to the Haribo Happiness Fund and Seeds for Change for funding the bird boxes and trees.
Wharfedale View Elf Day
Community Coach Adam has recently assisted with Wharfdale View’s Elf Day, in support of Alzheimer’s UK. Adam played different games with the residents, and also sat down and chatted to others. A number of raffles also took place. Soon, Adam is also looking forward to welcoming Yeadon pre-school into Wharfedale View, where the children will sing Christmas songs for the residents.
Foundation Awarded Two Grants
Last week we were awarded a grant from High Sheriff, to engage young people at risk of permanent exclusion from education. We were also awarded a grant from the Older People’s Forum, which we will use to support the elderly, and ensure that they remain fit and active.
