May Half-Term Football Camps
During the May half-term holidays, we will again be running our very popular Holiday Football Camps. The camps will take place from Tuesday June 1st – Friday 4th June. Each day starts at 10:00 and finishes at 15:00, with registration starting from 09:45. The cost for all 4 days is only £40, or £15 per day, with sibling discounts available. All children aged 6-14 are welcome. All Covid-19 procedures will be in place, which includes a temperature check on arrival, and regular sanitising intervals throughout the day. There is a maximum of 30 places per day, so email firstname.lastname@example.org to avoid missing out.
Sports Leaders: Playmaker Award
We are pleased that the first 11 pupils to take part in the Playmaker Award scheme at Yeadon Westfield Junior School have completed the course. Their certificates for achieving the award are on their way! The Foundation began delivering the same award at Guiseley Primary 3 week ago, with 10 Year 5 pupils taking part. We hope to begin delivering the award at Rufford Park and Queensway in the coming weeks.
Asda Foundation Grant
The Foundation has recently been successful in obtaining an award of hygiene items from the Asda Foundation. This includes personal care products such as nappies, toilet roll and feminine products. We will distribute these products to families identified by local schools, and they will also be available at our foodbanks.
After May half-term, Community Coach Marcus Wardell will be leading the Foundation’s Eco-Schools project. The aim of this project is to ensure each of our 4 partner schools achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, as well as the Bronze and Silver Flag awards on the road to Green Flag status. An eco-committee will be set up in each of our partner schools, who will work alongside Marcus to create an action plan to make their school more environmentally friendly. Each committee will then put this action plan into place, monitoring and evaluating their progress throughout, whilst also keeping their class-mates and parents up-to-date via their Eco-notice board. Green Flag status should be attained within 1 year!
New Pre-School Sessions
Last week, the Foundation started a new Pre-School project. We are happy to be working with Kangaroo Kids, Yeadon Pre-School and Pebbles Nursery in delivering a range of sports activities. The aim of this newly-designed programme is to help improve the health and fitness of young children, and to help develop some early sports skills. These include hand-eye coordination, ball skills and increasing confidence in movement. This will allow for the development of more complex sporting skills as the children grow older, but more importantly, all activities will be fun-based. The Foundation would like to thank Aireborough Children’s Centre for part-funding this programme, and for their support in ensuring the programme can take place.
